Background to the Show Jumping Association of Ireland.
The Show Jumping Association of Ireland is the Governing Body for show jumping in Ireland trading as ShowjumpingIreland. It is responsible for the administration, development and implementation of its affairs throughout Ireland. Showjumping Ireland’s aim is to encourage the holding of Showjumping events in Ireland which provide good sport, fair competition and fellowship for those people with an interest in the horse. It is divided into four regions; each region has five elected representatives. It is run as a Limited Company and is based in the heart of equestrianism in Co. Kildare.
In 2014 ShowjumpingIreland celebrated 60 years in existence. Membership for the year exceeded 7,000 with an estimated supporter figure in excess of 50,000. Throughout the year there are 1,500 show days with over 154,000 competition entries.
ShowjumpingIreland caters for all levels of show jumping ability, from Pony jumping to Grand Prix. ShowjumpingIreland is one of the few sports that the Irish Sports Council recognises as having the potential to produce an Olympic medal for Ireland. There is a wealth of talent in our riders and horses in this country and we have currently over 100 competitors participating at international level across the globe, 8 of which are in the top 100 FEI world rankings , 4 of these are in the top 50. ShowjumpingIreland recognises the need for continued change and development to encourage all levels of participation.
ShowjumpingIreland is also committed to introducing new competitions, which aims to raise the standard of competition in Ireland. In 2007 ShowjumpingIreland introduced a new Premier GP League, which ran at 8 selected major shows throughout Ireland as a spectacle of top class Show Jumping. This Premier League not only encourages our senior riders to remain at home, but it also entices foreign riders to compete in Ireland. The GP Premier League has the largest prize money fund of any national league held in mainland Europe.
